Injections:

·        Cannot take in combination with Cholera.

 

 

Hepatitis A                          9 months                      $85 each

·        Note: if take 2nd dose w/in 6-12 months of 1st dose, immunized for 20 years.

First set of two injections must be completed four (4) weeks prior to leaving.  Preferably, if taking all three, they are complete prior to departure.

 

Hepatitis B                          12 years                       $75 each

·        Two (2) shots required to be effective

·        One month apart

·        Optional:  Third shot six (6) months after the second, immunized for  20 years         

 

Meningococcal (Meningitis) 5 years  $85
Tetanus 10 years $10
MMR 5 years $40

(measles, mumps, rubella, adult booster)    

 

Polio (adult booster) 5 years $25

Oral capsules:

·        Must be completed 1 week before travel

·        Take one (1) tablet weekly; on a full stomach.

·        Start one (1) week prior to traveling, every week gone, and for four (4) weeks after return.

 

ÆÄCholera (Vaccin Mutacol Berna) 7 years* $45 + ($25 cash for office visit)

·        Cannot eat two (2) hours prior to taking and one (1) hour afterward.

·        Obtained in Canada

·        * Paper insert says 6 months effective; pharmacist called the company and was told 7 years.

·        MUST be completed one (1) week prior to starting Malaria.

 

Note:  at the present time, the manufacture and sale of the only licensed cholera vaccine in the United States has been discontinued.  It has not been recommended for travelers because of the brief and incomplete immunity it offers.  No cholera vaccination requirements exist for entry or exit in any country, per the Center for Disease Control website.

 

Ä Indicates mandatory for Kenya.  (As of 2003 this has changed to “recommended”.)

ÆIndicates mandatory for Uganda.

 

Must keep an immunization record for personal use.

Must have a stamped certificate of record for Yellow Fever for entry into certain countries.
